Basic training
These are industry standard skills courses, for the use of chainsaws on the ground, basic tree climbing, pruning and dismantling. These are run to prepare candidates for assessment under the
NPTC scheme. This will help employers fulfil the basic requirement of training for chainsaw use and tree climbing under the Health and Safety at Work Act, and also fulfil the requirement to hold a certificate of competence under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 98, covering the use of chainsaws at work. All courses follow the national occupational standards set out by the Trees and Timber Sector Skills Council, with further detail from the Arboriculture and Forestry Advisory Group, as set out in their safety guides published by the Health & Safety Executive. Please see rates and related information section for duration, costs, and pre-requisites.
The Tree Work Masterclass
This course is designed specifically for Arborists that do not necessarily climb, but are responsible for those that do. It is ideally suited to experienced Arborists/supervisors/managers/clerks of works, that would like an overview, discussion and justification of current techniques and equipment. Methodologies will be explained to help employers put in place safe and ergonomically efficient and versatile work systems. The syllabus involves under pinning knowledge lectures, demonstrations, and an in depth discussion of the contents and costs of basic and advanced climbing and rigging systems. All techniques comply with
HSE regulations. Duration 2 days. Pre-requisites None
Advanced Ground Worker Training
This course is designed to elevate the everyday ground worker from trusted brush dragger and timber dodger, to a highly valued member of an advanced climbing and rigging team! The candidate will learn how to set lines from the ground, how to tie efficient and safe knots for sending equipment aloft, how to set up climbing and rigging systems from the ground, and how to set up and use a variety of lowering devices. In addition, proper communication systems with client and crew, site safety and ergonomic and efficient working and lifting techniques will be a part of the syllabus. Duration 2 days. Pre-requisites CS30/31
Advanced Climber Training
This course is designed to elevate a basic climber from NPTC CS38/39 standard to an efficient, productive worker of large trees. Techniques and equipment are discussed in a versatile systems approach to working large trees. All techniques and equipment promoted are ergonomically efficient, which means footlocking and body thrusting are kept to a bare minimum. You won't believe how easy it is to access large trees of all types! The syllabus includes equipment maintenance and marking, and lessons from our in house ergonomics expert on how to avoid typical arborist muscular-skeletal disorders. Safe and efficient work positioning and aerial chainsaw techniques will also be covered. Duration 3 days. Pre-requisites NPTC CS38/39
Advanced Rigging Training
This course is designed to elevate a basic climber from NPTC CS38/39/41 standard to a highly efficient, safe and productive tree rigger. Basic and advanced techniques are taught in a systems approach to tackling the largest trees you can imagine, safely and efficiently. Accurate rules of thumb are explained with complex computer programming that enables the correct equipment to be applied to the task. Candidates benefit from a straight forward concepts approach, that enables an informed choice to be made on equipment purchase and use. In addition, examples of rigging kits and techniques that were born from in depth risk assessments are provided. Practical sessions are mixed with theory to form a solid underpinning knowledge. Duration 3 days. Pre-requisites NPTC CS38/39/4
